Well, I almost can't be bothered, and the less said the better. It would be true to say that fishing conditions on the local spate rivers were less than ideal, with spring and summer drought coupled with high temperatures leading to exceptionally low water and undoubted pressure on trout populations. To make matters worse, poor salmon counts on the Bann didn't auger well for late season fishing. By the time we had a couple of decent spates the season was almost over, with only small numbers of salmon and dollaghan reported caught.
I suppose one of my biggest fears for the future of the Braid is that we might be seeing a more permanent, and potentially worsening, change in the climate. As a club we can do stuff about pollution and illegal fishing - reversing climate change might be out of our league. So fingers crossed for 2023.
